Goalkeeper Wars Tournament Rules & Regulations

General

This document outlines the rules and regulations for the Goalkeeper Wars Tournament.

All participants, referees, and organisers must adhere to these rules for a fair and enjoyable competition.

The organizers reserve the right to modify these rules at their discretion, with any changes communicated to participants beforehand.

Eligibility

The tournament is open to goalkeepers of all ages and skill levels. We will be running several age categories. So the goalkeepers must be signed up to the correct age category.

Participants must register online or through the designated method before the deadline.

A registration fee must be paid to confirm participation and attendance before the deadline.

Format

The tournament will be played with a group stage, followed by a knockout round leading to a final.

Matches will consist of 1v1 battles between goalkeepers, with each goalkeeper defending a designated goal.

The game duration will be [2 minutes] per half, with a short (1 minute) break in between.

Gameplay

A designated referee will oversee each match and ensure fair play.

Rock-paper-scissors or another pre-determined method (e.g., coin toss) will decide which goalkeeper starts with the ball possession.

Goalkeepers are permitted to use any legal goalkeeping techniques to save shots.

A goal is scored when the ball crosses the goal line entirely behind the goalkeeper.

During regular time, goalkeepers can only take a shot from within their designated half of the field.

Goalkeepers can use any legal form of distribution (throw, punt, kick) to initiate an attack towards the opponent's goal.

Pitch size, goals, and balls will vary depending on the designated age group for a safe and appropriate playing experience.

Tiebreakers (Knockout Rounds Only)

In case of a tie after regulation time:

A short extra period (1 minute) can be implemented.

If the score remains tied after extra time, a sudden death penalty shootout format will be used to determine the winner.

Mercy Rule

If a goalkeeper is winning by a significant margin (e.g., 5 or more goals), they will be restricted to throwing the ball to score for the remainder of the match or until the margin is less (e.g. 4 goals or less).

Equipment

Participants must wear appropriate goalkeeper attire (gloves, jersey, etc.).

The tournament will provide all necessary equipment (goals, balls, cones, bibs).

Conduct

All participants are expected to exhibit sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

Unsportsmanlike conduct, including arguing with the referee or other participants, will result in a warning or disqualification at the referee's discretion match or competition.

Participants are responsible for their safety and well-being during the tournament.

Winners of each category will be awarded a trophy.

Additional recognition can be given to goalkeepers with the most saves or outstanding performances.
